Job summary

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Deputy Ward Manager for Ward 19 as we expand to 28 medical beds. The role focuses on leading a multidisciplinary team, maintaining high standards of patient care and driving continuous improvement.

You will be designated to take regular charge in the absence of the Ward/Department Manager, oversee resource use and support a balanced budget, while supporting staff development and recruitment initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years Band 5 experience in an acute setting.
• Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and respond to feedback.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Designate to take regular charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager.
• Ensure effective use of resources and support budget balance.
• Act as an expert practitioner and provide advanced clinical care.
• Oversee timely admission and discharge of patients.
• Create a therapeutic environment for patients, relatives and carers.
• Promote analytical care delivery and implement system improvements.
• Participate in audits and drive changes based on outcomes.
• Provide preceptorship and mentoring to junior staff.
• Lead the team in the Ward/Department Manager's absence.
• Contribute to recruitment, selection and appraisals of junior staff.
• Support policy adherence and HR processes for staff wellbeing.
• Continuously update skills and stay current with clinical issues.
