Job summary

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a ward cleaner to maintain environmental cleanliness across wards, including toilets, bathrooms, showers and equipment. You will follow the daily work schedule and ensure compliance with NHS cleanliness standards.

The role includes cleaning patient areas, replenishing supplies for infection prevention, waste handling, and maintaining hygienic conditions across bays and nurse stations. A flexible rota supports patient care needs.

Responsibilities

• Ensure delivery of general environmental cleaning on wards, including cleaning of sanitary areas (toilets, bathrooms, showers, sluice rooms).
• Carry out daily and weekly cleaning of patient equipment and bay/side rooms per the daily work schedule.
• Maintain compliance with National Specification for Cleanliness in The NHS (2021) PAS 5748 and Trust policies.
• Replenish hand hygiene supplies (alcohol gel, gloves, towels, soap) to support infection control.
• Empty, clean, and reline waste bins with appropriate liners and dispose as required.
• Vacuum carpeted areas and mop hard floors to keep areas free from dust and grit.
• Clean and dry sanitary areas (WCs, basins, baths, showers, sinks, sluices) as present in the ward.
