Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and in a team under deadlines

Job description

  • Review and investigate violations of labor standards under Massachusetts General Laws Chapters 149 and 151 and related regulations and statutes
  • Conduct interviews concerning complaints of wage violations
  • Write reports and respond to inquiries from employees, employers, and representatives regarding applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations
  • Conduct site visits
  • Testify at civil and criminal hearings and before the grand jury
  • Support enforcement of wage, hour, child labor, prevailing wage, and related laws
  • Conduct payroll audits and analyze financial records
  • Communicate extensively with members of the public through telephone and virtual platforms
  • Work with people and communities from different ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds
Requirements
  • At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or technical experience in inspection or investigatory work or in the regulation or enforcement of wage and hour laws, or any equivalent combination of required experience and applicable substitutions
  • Current and valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator's license required
  • Associate's degree with a major in a related discipline may substitute for one year of required experience
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in a related discipline may substitute for the required experience
  • Professional, technical experience and/or investigatory work in labor standards preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Prior knowledge of construction and building trades and/or immigrant communities preferred
  • Proficiency with computer-based law enforcement systems
  • Organizational, analytical, interpersonal, leadership, written and oral communication skills
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and excellent computer skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information, exercise sound judgment, recognize problems, and develop solutions

  • Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, or other language fluency desirable
