Job description

• Enforce Massachusetts labor standards, including laws addressing non-payment of wages, overtime, minimum wage, child labor, public construction bidding, prevailing wages, labor trafficking, and related statutes
• Maintain an active caseload
• Prosecute violations in civil, criminal, and administrative proceedings
• Review requests for U and T Visa law enforcement certifications
• Participate in community engagement initiatives
• Make public presentations to employers and employees concerning wage and hour laws

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree
• Admission to the Massachusetts Bar
• At least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in the practice of law
• Legal experience and/or interest in protecting the rights of vulnerable populations, civil enforcement of labor standards or other rights, and/or criminal litigation experience in district and superior courts including grand jury
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
• Interest in developing novel legal strategies to combat wage theft
• Working knowledge of Massachusetts labor and employment laws
• Ability to advise staff and the public on legal matters by interpreting specified Massachusetts laws, regulations, statutes, and case law
• Ability to educate the public on laws, rules, and policies governing Office operations
• Ability to investigate and adjudicate public construction bidding law violations
• Ability to interact effectively and convey information
• Ability to adjust to changing situations and priorities
• Ability to spend significant portions of each day on the telephone and virtual platforms
