NPR in Washington, DC/New York hybrid newsroom leadership seeks a Vice President of Talent Strategy to architect talent strategy across journalism and host talent.

Reporting to the Chief Content Officer, you will build diverse pipelines, negotiate complex contracts, and align recruitment with NPR's editorial mission.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive executive leadership in talent management, talent relations, media recruiting, or creative talent strategy.
• Active network of journalists, creators, agencies, and digital‑first storytellers.
• Proven track record structuring and negotiating complex multi‑party talent contracts.
• Experience building diverse talent rosters engaging cross‑generational audiences.
• Trusted mediator in high‑stakes creative environments with discretion.
• Unwavering commitment to editorial independence and public service.

Responsibilities

• Executive Talent Relationship Management: Serve as the primary executive liaison to high‑profile journalists, hosts, and contributors, cultivating sustainable career pathways.
• Talent Scouting & Pipeline Development: Design and lead a comprehensive discovery strategy across traditional broadcast, podcasting, newsletters, social ecosystems, and independent journalism to build a diverse talent pipeline.
• Cross-Functional Mediation & Advocacy: Act as the connective tissue between talent, agents, and internal teams to align goals with priorities.
• Complex Contract Structuring & Negotiations: Oversee talent agreement frameworks, renewals, and rights with precision and diplomacy.
• Editorial Standards & Mission Alignment: Ensure recruitment and partnerships reflect NPR's core mission and ethics.
• Audience Forecasting & Metric Analysis: Partner with Content Insights to evaluate audience trends and identify future talent needs.
• DEI Talent Initiatives: Embed DEI in every phase of talent identification and retention.
