Job summary

Backblaze is seeking a VP of People to lead a remote-first, US-based People organization as it scales from roughly 500 to 1000 employees and expands internationally. You will design and run the HR systems powering engagement, culture, communications, retention, and leadership development in a distributed environment, using AI as part of the workflow.

Qualifications

• Operated teams outside the United States and managed distributed workforces.
• Scaled a company through the 500–1000 employee stage with international expansion.
• Built or evolved HR operating models, programs, and processes at scale.
• Uses AI tools/agents in daily HR work to improve delivery.
• Led teams and developed people in distributed environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead a remote-first People organization across geographies and time zones.
• Own engagement, culture, communications, retention, succession, and manager development.
• Build and scale HR operations and HRBP capabilities as the company grows.
• Partner with AI Transformation Leader on redesigning work, roles, and team structure.
• Drive learning, mobility, and internal leadership development.
