Job summary

KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting seeks a Vice President of Payroll to lead multi-state payroll operations for 10,000+ employees. Reporting to CFO, this role oversees a hands-on team, drives process improvements and builds scalable infrastructure.

Hybrid work arrangement is 3-4 days in the office. Compensation is $150,000-$175,000 plus bonus. A Bachelor's degree and CPP designation are preferred; candidate will strengthen controls and ensure regulatory compliance across states.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership of large, complex payroll operations.
• Experience managing payroll for 10,000+ employees.
• Strong background overseeing weekly payroll for a predominantly hourly workforce.
• Proven ability to lead, develop, and restructure payroll teams of 6+ professionals.
• Extensive knowledge of multi-state payroll, payroll taxes, wage-and-hour regulations, and overtime requirements.
• Demonstrated success improving payroll processes, systems, internal controls, and operational efficiencies.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
• Healthcare, home care, or other labor-intensive service industry experience is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; CPP designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end payroll operations across multiple states.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6-8 payroll professionals, assessing the current structure and identifying opportunities to strengthen the team.
• Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, including timekeeping, overtime, deductions, payroll taxes, and reconciliations.
• Evaluate payroll systems and processes, driving automation, standardization, and operational efficiencies.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage-and-hour regulations and multi-state payroll requirements.
• Partner with the CFO, Accounting, HR, Billing, and Operations leadership to improve cross-functional processes and reporting.
• Develop scalable payroll infrastructure to support continued growth, acquisitions, and expansion into new markets.
