Job summary

National Beverage seeks a visionary VP of Packaging Purchasing to lead strategic sourcing, procurement, and supplier management across packaging categories for North America. This executive role will partner with Operations, Manufacturing, Logistics, Finance, and Sales Planning to secure supply, reduce costs, and drive performance.

The ideal candidate has deep packaging market knowledge, strong negotiation skills, and a track record of delivering cost savings and supply resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years in packaging procurement or beverage industry purchasing.
• Proven track record in multi-million-dollar contracts and supplier negotiations.
• Experience with packaging categories: aluminum cans, ends, paperboard, labels, films, resins, and related components.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies for all packaging categories supporting company manufacturing operations.
• Identify and qualify alternative and emerging sources of supply to improve cost competitiveness and supply resilience.
• Lead supplier selection processes, RFQs, negotiations, and long-term strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Build and maintain a robust supplier portfolio capable of supporting future growth and changing market conditions.
• Monitor industry trends, supplier capacity developments, and competitive dynamics within the packaging sector.
• Maintain expertise in the commercial and market drivers impacting aluminum, can sheet, resins, plastics, paperboard, corrugated, and energy inputs.
• Analyze commodity market trends and develop strategies to mitigate volatility and optimize purchasing costs.
• Manage and negotiate commodity-based pricing mechanisms, escalators, index-linked agreements, and risk-sharing arrangements.
• Lead negotiation of supply agreements, pricing structures, service-level commitments, allocation protections, and performance guarantees.
• Establish contract terms that balance supply security, flexibility, inventory requirements, and cost competitiveness.
• Manage supplier commercial relationships at executive levels and ensure contract metrics and quality standards.
• Partner with Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain to develop accurate packaging forecasts and align supply with production.
• Align supply commitments and capacity reservations with production requirements.
• Manage supplier production planning and inventory strategies for uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
• Support annual budgeting, long-range planning, and cost forecasting activities.
• Develop supplier scorecards and conduct regular business reviews with strategic suppliers.
• Lead corrective actions for disruptions, quality issues, and cost recovery opportunities.
• Oversee inbound transportation strategies and optimize freight costs and service levels.
• Foster a culture of accountability, strategic thinking, and supplier partnership.
