Job summary

Walbec seeks a Vice President of Safety to embed safety into every decision across construction, materials production, transportation, and field operations. The VP will lead safety strategy, accountability, and field relationships to ensure workers return home with the same health and abilities they arrived with.

The role emphasizes data-informed decisions, coaching leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with Operations and HR to align safety with daily execution.

Qualifications

• Progressive safety leadership experience in large multi-site operations.
• Ability to lead strategically and influence senior executives.
• Strong knowledge of occupational safety, injury prevention, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience using data, management systems, and organizational change to drive improvement.
• Credibility with field employees and sound judgment in safety decisions.
• Willingness to travel regularly to operating locations.

Responsibilities

• Set a compelling safety vision and integrate risk prevention into business planning and capital decisions.
• Partner with operations and HR to own safe execution and address planning gaps.
• Lead technical safety programs, risk controls, and incident learning.
• Develop a safety organization with clear accountability and field presence.
• Improve safety data quality, leading indicators, and performance reporting.
• Foster a culture of reporting, stop-work decisions, and continuous improvement.
