Job summary

Wohlsen Construction is seeking a Director of Safety to drive the strategic direction and ongoing improvement of the company’s Safety and Health Program. This leader will partner with Risk Management leadership to embed safety as a core business value in planning, decision-making, and project execution.

The role emphasizes leadership through influence, risk-informed decision making, and culture development to protect employees and strengthen operational performance across regions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field required.
• Minimum 12 years of progressive construction safety leadership experience.
• 5 years leading and developing safety professionals.
• CSP, CHST, ASP, or equivalent certification required; OSHA 500 and related certifications preferred.
• Advanced understanding of safety management systems, construction operations, project delivery, and risk management.
• Experience with digital safety tools such as Procore Safety.
• Executive-level communication, facilitation, strategic thinking, and coaching skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety vision, strategy, and culture across the company.
• Partner with Risk Management to align safety with business objectives.
• Develop and oversee Safety Department, leadership development, and succession plans.
• Establish policies, standards, and governance for safety programs.
• Track KPIs, monitor safety metrics, and drive risk reduction.
• Collaborate with Operations and HR on safety initiatives and incidents.
• Represent Wohlsen with clients, industry groups, and regulatory bodies.
• Lead investigations and support crisis response and regulatory matters.
