Upstream Bio in Waltham, MA seeks a strategic VP, IT to lead strategy, operations, and digital enablement for a growing biotech. You will partner with the executive team to shape a technology roadmap, invest wisely, and balance speed with compliance across R&D, clinical, quality, finance, and HR.

The role requires 15+ years in IT leadership within regulated environments, cloud and cybersecurity expertise, and a roll-up-your-sleeves leadership style to deliver automation and AI-enabled

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive IT leadership experience in biotech/pharma or regulated environments.
• Experience supporting clinical-stage or growth-stage organizations and regulatory readiness.
• Proven track record building and modernizing IT capabilities in a growing organization.
• Strong knowledge of cloud, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, data environments, and regulated systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute an enterprise IT strategy and multi-year technology roadmap aligned with priorities.
• Serve as strategic advisor to senior leadership, prioritizing investments to enable scale.
• Lead IT operations including infrastructure, cloud, networks, and end-user services for reliability.
• Evaluate and optimize enterprise technologies and business applications across functions.
• Drive digital enablement, data analytics, workflow automation, and AI-enabled solutions.
• Establish IT governance, cybersecurity, data privacy, risk management, and disaster recovery.
• Partner with leaders to improve processes and collaboration through technology.
• Build and develop a high-performing IT function with internal and external talent.
• Oversee vendor selection, performance, and fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Manage IT budget and investments with focus on scalability and efficiency.
• Lead change management and user adoption for new systems across the organization.
• Build a technology foundation to support growth and future commercial readiness.
