VP, Information Technology & Security

Boingo seeks a senior technology leader to unify corporate IT operations and Information Security under one executive function within Engineering. This critical role supports secure, high-performance networks across airports, transit hubs, military bases, stadiums, and commercial properties, with a modern, compliant, and automated corporate technology foundation.

Beyond internal IT and security, Boingo is building and delivering security products and services for venues where we operate. The leader will help ensure the internal security organization supports enterprise compliance and the growing customer-facing security business, in collaboration with Security, Engineering, and Network Operations.

In this role, you will provide strategic direction to teams that keep employees productive and secure, including Security Compliance, GRC, Cybersecurity, and Corporate IT. You will collaborate with Engineering, Network Operations, Product, Legal, HR, Finance, and Operations.

You should have deep experience operating mixed enterprise environments spanning Microsoft 365 / Entra ID, Google Workspace, and Mac and Windows endpoints, while building and maturing programs aligned to NIST, GRC, and SOC 2. The ideal candidate understands how to scale security beyond the corporate perimeter—supporting secure network deployments and security product offerings in complex, multi-tenant venue environments. You thrive at the intersection of security, compliance, product delivery, and practical IT operations, and know how to build high-performing teams that automate rather than rely on manual ticket-driven workflows.

Responsibilities

IT Operations & Corporate Technology

• Lead corporate IT operations through the IT Manager, ensuring reliable service delivery for employees, contractors, and partners
• Own the corporate technology stack, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Google Workspace, endpoint management, SaaS provisioning, and corporate network, and access services
• Drive automation of identity, access, device lifecycle, and workforce onboarding / offboarding in partnership with HR, Legal, and Engineering
• Establish IT service levels, operational metrics, and executive dashboards for availability, risk, compliance, and automation coverage
• Manage vendor relationships, licensing, and contracts for corporate IT and security tooling

Security, GRC & Compliance

• Provide executive leadership over Information Security, including GRC and Cybersecurity functions
• Own and mature Boingo's GRC program, including risk register management, control mapping, evidence collection, and audit readiness
• Maintain alignment with NIST, SOC 2, and applicable regulatory and contractual obligations
• Partner with Legal, HR, Finance, and Engineering on policy development, vendor security, incident response, and risk acceptance
• Ensure security architecture, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, logging, monitoring, and endpoint security programs operate effectively across the enterprise

Venue Security Product & Network Security

• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Network Operations to support the development and delivery of Boingo's venue security offering
• Ensure security requirements are embedded into DAS, private network, and Wi‑Fi network designs, deployments, and ongoing operations for customer venues
• Align internal security standards, controls, and operational practices with the security capabilities Boingo delivers to airports, transit systems, military bases, stadiums, and other large-scale environments
• Support go-to-market, customer, and operational readiness for venue security products and services
• Serve as a senior security voice in cross-functional discussions involving network architecture, product roadmap, deployment, and customer support

Leadership & Strategy

• Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing leadership team across IT and Security
• Define annual IT & Security strategy, roadmap, and budget in alignment with Engineering and company objectives
• Unify IT operations and security into a single control plane for identity, devices, and access
• Serve as escalation point for major incidents, audit findings, control gaps, and operational outages
• Represent IT & Security in executive forums, audit activities, customer security reviews, and cross-functional governance

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in information technology, information security, or infrastructure leadership, with 8+ years in people management and 5+ years at director level or above
• Proven success leading both IT operations and security, and GRC functions, or equivalently large infrastructure and compliance organizations
• Deep working knowledge of NIST cybersecurity frameworks, GRC program operation, and SOC 2 audit readiness
• Hands-on executive experience operating a multi-platform enterprise, including:
• Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and Conditional Access
• Google Workspace and Google Admin
• Mixed Mac and Windows endpoint environments (Jamf, Intune, or equivalent MDM)
• Corporate networking, VPN, Zero Trust access, and SaaS identity integration
• Experience applying security controls and governance in complex network or multi-site operational environments; experience in telecommunications, venue, or service-provider environments strongly preferred
• Experience partnering with product, engineering, and network teams to deliver secure services or security-enabled offerings to customers
• Experience with SIEM, EDR, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, and GRC platforms (e.g., ZenGRC or equivalent)
• Demonstrated ability to partner with Engineering on secure architecture, cloud platform security, and remediation of audit or scan findings
• Strong executive communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership, auditors, customers, and business stakeholders
• Track record of building automation-first IT organizations that reduce manual touchpoints and improve compliance posture
• Proven ability to operate effectively within a matrixed organizational structure
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience

• CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, or equivalent certifications
• Experience in telecommunications, SaaS, or regulated industries
• Familiarity with ISO 27001, PCI DSS, CCPA, GDPR, or customer-driven security frameworks
• Experience supporting security in DAS, Wi‑Fi, private network, or carrier, venue network environments
• Background supporting federal, DoD, transit, aviation, or other highly regulated venue customers
• Experience leading Google Workspace migration or role-based collaboration platform segmentation
