Job summary

SystemsAccountants is seeking a hands-on Vice President, Financial Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing financial services organization in Washington, DC. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; Master's is a plus.
  • CPA credential is preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience.
  • Significant experience in financial services.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Extensive NetSuite ERP experience including optimization and automation.
  • Proven success in accounting process improvements and operational transformation.
  • Strong internal controls, close processes, and audit requirements.
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring timely month-, quarter-, and year-end closes.
  • Mentor and develop a team of accounting professionals.
  • Partner with Group Controller on strategic financial initiatives and growth.
  • Ensure integrity of financial statements per US GAAP.
  • Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, consolidations, accruals, and reporting.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and controls.
  • Own NetSuite ERP optimization, automation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strengthen accounting policies and internal controls for scalability.
  • Support audits and coordinate with auditors for timely completion.
  • Collaborate with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Compliance, and other leaders on decisions.
  • Identify technology and automation opportunities to improve operations.
  • Participate in special projects, system implementations, acquisitions, integrations.

Position Summar

Reports To: Group Controller, Holding Company

Our client is seeking a hands-on, strategic Vice President, Financial Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing financial services organization. Reporting directly to the Group Controller of the holding company, this role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving operational excellence across the accounting organization.

This leader will manage a team of accountants while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate combines technical accounting expertise with a continuous process improvement mindset, leveraging technology, particularly NetSuite ERP, to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reporting capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Group Controller, supporting enterprise-wide financial initiatives and organizational growth.
  • Maintain responsibility for the integrity of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Oversee general ledger, account reconciliations, consolidations, accruals, and financial reporting.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows, strengthen controls, and improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert for NetSuite ERP, optimizing system functionality, automating manual processes, and partnering with cross-functional teams on enhancement.
  • Evaluate and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support a scalable finance organization.
  • Support internal and external audits and coordinate with auditors to ensure timely completion of audit requirement.
  • Partner closely with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Compliance, and other business leaders to support strategic decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology and automation to improve accounting operations and reporting.
  • Participate in special projects, system implementations, acquisitions, integrations, and other strategic initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree is a plus.
  • CPA required (preferred if applicable to your organization).
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including experience managing accounting teams.
  • Significant experience within the financial services industry is required.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience with NetSuite ERP is required, including system optimization, reporting, and process automation.
  • Demonstrated success leading accounting process improvements and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, financial close processes, and audit requirements.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
