Job summary

Backstory is seeking a VP/SVP of Finance to lead FP&A, accounting, and cash for a fast-growing enterprise B2B software business. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll guide the finance function, shape the financial strategy, and partner with the board and investors on reporting and capital planning.

This hands-on role requires getting into the model and close cycles, aligning planning with business growth, and building a lean, scalable finance team to support the next growth milestone alongside top-tier

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive finance leadership, currently as SVP/VP of Finance or ready to step up.
• Experience across the full finance function with depth in FP&A and a link to business operations.
• Experience in a productized, enterprise B2B software company with ARR and subscription models.
• Disciplined operator who can scale finance as the business grows.
• Track record building finance teams and partnering with executives.
• Fluency in SaaS metrics and connecting them to financial performance.
• Hands-on ownership of monthly close, GAAP reporting, internal controls, and ASC 606.
• Experience managing external auditors, tax advisors, and banking relations.

Responsibilities

• Own the annual budget, rolling forecasts, and scenario modeling for revenue, headcount, opex, and cash.
• Deliver monthly/quarterly reporting with plan-to-actuals and partner with operating leaders on drivers.
• Partner with Sales, Product, Marketing, and Customer teams on investment trade-offs as revenue grows.
• Prepare board materials and investor reporting; manage funding readiness.
• Lead pricing/units economics discussions with Product; forecast subscription usage and revenue.
• Oversee accounting, controllership, and revenue recognition; ensure audit readiness.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity, banking relationships, and working capital.
• Build a lean finance team and partner with People on planning and equity.
