Coda Search is partnering with an investment manager in NYC to recruit a VP Finance/Controller who will lead a 4-5 person accounting team and oversee financial reporting across multiple entities.

The role encompasses month/quarter/year closes, consolidations, audits, internal controls, treasury, and investment accounting for private equity, venture, real assets. Strong GAAP knowledge and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
• Active CPA certification required
• Experience with Big Four or top-tier public accounting and alternative investments
• 4+ years of managing and developing accounting teams
• Deep knowledge of US GAAP, partnership accounting and multi-entity consolidations
• Hands-on experience with private fund investments: capital calls, distributions and K-1s

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities, trusts, LLCs, partnerships, and operating companies.
• Prepare and review consolidated and entity-level financial statements.
• Lead the annual audit and external reviews; serve as primary contact for auditors.
• Design, document, and maintain internal controls, workflows, and separation of duties.
• Oversee finance, treasury and planning activities.
• Manage accounting for direct investments, co-investments and fund commitments across various strategies.
• Track capital calls, distributions, unfunded obligations; record valuations from capital statements and K-1s.
• Oversee partnership accounting for internal investment vehicles, including capital accounts and allocations.
• Coordinate with outside tax advisors on returns, estimated payments and K-1 collection.
• Lead, develop, and mentor a team of four; set priorities and conduct performance evaluations.

Coda Search is partnering with an investment manager with offices located in NYC. This is a growing firm that manages a diversified portfolio of public, private investments, and real assets. The team is seeking to hire a VP Finance/Controller to manage a team of 4-5 direct reports who will be responsible for all financial reporting and day-to-day accounting across all its entities.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities, trusts, LLCs, partnerships, and operating companies.


• Prepare and review consolidated and entity-level financial statements


• Lead the annual audit and any entity-level reviews, serving as primary contact for external auditors.


• Design, document, and maintain internal controls, approval workflows, and segregation of duties.


• Finance, treasury and planning


• Oversee accounting for direct investments, co-investments and fund commitments across private equity, venture, real estate, credit and hedge funds.


• Track commitments, capital calls, distributions and unfunded obligations; record valuations from capital account statements and K-1s.


• Oversee partnership accounting for internal investment vehicles, including capital accounts, allocations and waterfall calculations.


• Coordinate with outside tax advisors on returns, estimated payments, K-1 collection and timely filing.


• Lead, develop, and mentor a team of four; set priorities, review work and run performance evaluations.
