Job summary

Planet seeks a senior engineering leader to direct an end-to-end software stack for dual-use products, including GMS and MDA. You will own architecture, delivery, and ITAR/EAR compliance across cloud deployments and on-prem environments, guiding cross-functional teams of software, data/ML, and platform engineers to scale impact.

You will partner with Product Management and executive leadership to translate market needs into scalable roadmaps and execution plans, while ensuring high availability

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture.
• 8+ years of direct experience leading and scaling multi-disciplinary engineering organizations.
• Experience managing engineering teams, pipelines, and data handling under ITAR/EAR.
• Track record architecting and operating dual-use or defense software at scale.
• Active high-level government security clearance or eligibility to obtain top-secret clearance.
• Deep expertise in distributed cloud architectures and high-throughput data processing.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale multi-disciplinary software engineering teams (software, data/ML, platform, infrastructure).
• Define software architecture, data models, and standards for高-throughput geospatial analytics and real-time alerting.
• Ensure ITAR/EAR compliance in development and deployment pipelines.
• Partner with Product Management to translate vision into scalable roadmaps and execution sprints.
• Direct AI/model integration and agentic workflows into the dual-use product stack.
• Drive reliability, SLAs, and secure cloud deployment across commercial and sovereign environments.
