Job summary
Planet is seeking a Vice President of Defense and Intelligence Engineering to lead the software engineering org responsible for dual-use products like Global Monitoring Service (GMS) and Marine Domain Awareness (MDA). You will own architecture, systems development, and deployment pipelines, partnering with Product Management and Executive Leadership to deliver scalable geospatial solutions.

Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture, focusing on high-scale data, computer vision, or geospatial apps.
- 8+ years leading multi-disciplinary engineering orgs (software, data/ML, platform, cloud infra).
- Experience managing engineering teams, build pipelines, and data handling under ITAR/EAR regulations.
- Track record architecting and operating end-to-end dual-use or defense software (domain awareness, change detection, spatial monitoring).
- Active high-level government security clearance, or eligibility to obtain top-secret.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and scale multi-disciplinary software engineering teams.
- Define software architecture, data models, and standards for high-throughput geospatial analytics.
- Ensure ITAR/EAR compliance across deployment pipelines and IT systems.
- Partner with Product to translate vision into scalable roadmaps and sprints.
- Direct integration of ML models and agentic workflows into the dual-use product stack.
- Drive software delivery metrics, system reliability, and secure cloud deployment across environments.
