Job description

WHO WE ARE

New Classrooms is a national non-profit organization focused on reimagining math education for all students. We are a fully remote team of educators, technologists, and advocates committed to the idea that all students deserve an educational pathway that meets them where they are and gets them to where they need to be. We partner with schools, districts, and states to support the implementation of our personalized, competency-based math solution, Teach to One: Roadmaps, while also advocating for shifts across the K-12 landscape to create the conditions for more student-centered learning.

ABOUT THE ROLE

New Classrooms is looking for a dynamic, creative and entrepreneurial fundraiser to help New Classrooms successfully navigate the next stage of organizational growth. New Classrooms is currently supported by foundations such as the Bezos Family Foundation, the Gates Foundation, the Dell Foundation, and others and is looking to expand upon this base with a new set of individual and institutional donors who are compelled by our mission.

Successful candidates for this role will bring meaningful experience in fundraising within the K-12 sector, along with a set of pre-existing relationships from which to build. They will bring a unique combination of leadership, strategy, networking prowess, and deft communications skills in order to expand our donor base, and thus expand our overall impact. They will also serve as a member of the organization’s leadership team.

WHAT THIS ROLE DOES

  • Develop and oversee organization’s national fundraising strategy to grow the pipeline of potential supporters
  • Develop and implement strategies with current and potential donors, matching organizational needs with donor preferences
  • Direct fundraising efforts of CEO with current and potential donors
  • Support local fundraising efforts, in coordination with team members focused on program expansion in local communities that have a philanthropic funding base
  • Represent the organization at convenings with current and potential donors
  • Work with the CEO to secure new Board Members that can add fundraising capacity and other skills and perspectives to the organization. Serve as the primary contact with board members.
  • Manage team members responsible for the grants management process from proposal to reporting, in coordination with colleagues from the organization
  • Serve as a member of New Classroom Leadership Team, embodying our core values and contributing to key organizational strategies

KEY COMPETENCIES OF THE ROLE

  • Strategic. You are able to develop and execute fundraising approaches for donors that best reflect the intersection between organizational needs and donor preferences.
  • Relationship Builder. You’ve met many sector leaders, donors, and policymakers in your career and thrive in roles that require you to build and maintain trusting relationships.
  • Strong communicator. You have the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders who bring divergent sets of K-12 experiences -- from foundation program officers steeped in the nuances of K-12, to individual donors with no K-12 experience.
  • Systems Thinker. You are able to oversee, make use of, and iterate on, existing organizational systems and processes to ensure all of our fundraising efforts are effectively managed.
  • Persistent. You embrace challenges, both big and small, and have the ability to continually look for paths to success regardless of the obstacles in front of you.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You embody our core values: Prioritize People, Initiate and Innovate, Lifelong Learning, Creative Collaboration, Purposeful Partnerships and Considered Confidence.
  • A shared vision for a world where personalized learning is just the way students learn — a world where every student attends a school that meets them where they are, adapts to the unique ways they learn, and develops habits for lifelong success.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, collaborative environment - candidates with a track record of innovation strongly preferred.
  • Successful experience designing, developing, implementing and managing a variety of development strategies at various stages of organizational growth/size of budget.
  • Successful fundraising and relationship building track record with high net-worth individuals including experience working directly with and managing the activities of high-profile Board members and other major gift prospects.
  • Work effectively across the full spectrum of development activities, from creating thoughtful strategies and plans to executing on them as required.
  • Previous experience in K-12 or political fundraising is preferred.
  • Some domestic travel required.
