Position at United Veterinary Care
The Group Vice President (GVP) of Clinical Operations reports directly to the COO to support our partnered hospitals by mentoring hospital leaders, evaluating clinical processes, optimizing MD and veterinarian performance and production, providing insight to streamline clinical operations, uphold medical quality standards and address hospital clinical concerns. The role will partner with the operations of each assigned hospital to ensure a balanced representation of medical quality and financial considerations. The role will also serve to be a key advisor to the organization’s executive team and cross-functional departments. This is a remote position with 50% travel to hospitals and meetings.

The Group Vice President (GVP) of Clinical Operations reports directly to the COO to support our partnered hospitals by mentoring hospital leaders, evaluating clinical processes, optimizing MD and veterinarian performance and production, providing insight to streamline clinical operations, uphold medical quality standards and address hospital clinical concerns. The role will partner with the operations of each assigned hospital to ensure a balanced representation of medical quality and financial considerations. The role will also serve to be a key advisor to the organization’s executive team and cross-functional departments. This is a remote position with 50% travel to hospitals and meetings.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership & Development
- Build and develop high-performing clinical teams, including recruitment and competency assessment.
- Develop and mentor Medical Directors in assessing, developing, and managing veterinarians.
- Provide career development opportunities and track key clinical KPIs for veterinarians.
- Ensure clinical teams deliver exceptional, high-value, personalized care.
- Promote an entrepreneurial growth mindset in Medical Directors.
- Identify and implement organic clinical growth strategies across hospitals.
Training & Education
- Establish and support training plans for Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and other support staff.
- Support early-career veterinarian education through rounds, webinars, and virtual training.
- Coach Medical Directors on leading effective team meetings and huddles.
- Teach Medical Directors and veterinarians how to optimize support staff utilization.
Performance & Operational Strategy
- Develop and execute veterinarian performance and production strategies to achieve revenue targets.
- Partner with Operations to integrate clinical growth strategies into financial objectives.
- Optimize relief veterinarian utilization in collaboration with Medical Directors and Practice Managers.
- Advise on Medical Director and Associate Veterinarian Employment Agreements and compensation considerations.
Financial & Regulatory Oversight
- Monitor clinical productivity, service mix, and regulatory compliance in partnership with Operations.
- Ensure financial health of hospitals through strategic planning and operational adjustments.
- Oversee medical equipment decisions, procurement, and ROI evaluations.
- Streamline inventory strategy to maintain patient care consistency.
- Ensure that each hospital has an appropriate designated Doctor of Record.
Engagement & Communication
- Build trusted relationships with hospital leadership teams.
- Measure and promote veterinarian engagement and alignment with UVC.
- Be available to doctors for career discussions, concerns, and ideas.
Strategic Advisement and Support
- Act as the primary clinical advisor for cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
- Periodically present to the Executive team or Board of Directors.
- Partner with recruitment and L&D on clinical presence in universities and conferences.
Other Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent foreign degree is required.
- 10+ years of practicing in small animal veterinary medicine with hospital leadership required.
- 10+ years of experience in Specialty and Emergency medicine required.
- 5+ years of multi-site Veterinary leadership experience required; 10+ years preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop strong and supportive working relationships with a wide variety of people and backgrounds including clinicians, cross-functional leadership, and senior management.
- Superior problem-solving skills and a proven ability to influence change.
- Deep knowledge of budgeting, business development, and strategic planning.
- Deep understanding of finance in the context of veterinary industry and hospital operations including P&L, pricing, contract negotiations, revenues, and payroll.
- Obtain license in all active states and be capable of practicing 2-4 days per month alongside hospital teams.
- DEA license– may be at times required to serve as interim Medical Director of a given location with responsibility include location Doctor of Record and/or DEA holder.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent work at a computer for 60-70%of the time.
- Will and ability to travel at least 50% of the year, traveling to hospitals two weeks of each month.
- Frequent to moderate noise levels in the work environment.
- Frequent ability to carry our instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form to solve problems involving several variables.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch as well as manipulate (lift, carry and move) up to 15 pounds.
