BNY Mellon is seeking a Vice President, Database Engineer in Pittsburgh to lead advanced database engineering for Fund Accounting and Admin. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, IT, or related field.
• 5+ years with Oracle and exposure to Snowflake.
• PL/SQL development and advanced SQL skills.
• Strong data engineering capability with production-grade delivery.
• Experience with AI Agentic Workflows and Automation.
• Unix, PL/SQL, and Python for scalable workflows.
• Experience building/batching pipelines in Unix/Linux.
• Complex, performance-tuned SQL experience.
• ETL (extraction, transformation, load, controls, audit).
• Proven ability handling large datasets with data quality and reliability.
• Troubleshooting batch failures, data issues, and bottlenecks.
• Cross-functional collaboration to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
• Adherence to coding standards, documentation, and best practices.
• Shell scripting and Unix command-line proficiency.
• Must have RESTful web service experience.
• Understanding of microservices architectures (Kafka).
• Caching with Hazelcast/Redis is a plus.
• SDLC, DevOps processes, Git/JIRA.
• Ability to investigate production issues via code and logs.

Responsibilities

• Ensure database performance and scalability through regular assessments and improvements.
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate database solutions with applications.
• Lead database automation initiatives to drive efficiency.
• Gather requirements from source system owners and data consumers.
• Model end-to-end data flows and entities across systems.
• Create and maintain ERDs, mappings, and naming standards.
• Develop and optimize tables, views, indexes, and procedures.
• Tune performance with SQL tuning, indexing, partitioning, and plans.
• Implement data validation, reconciliation, and error handling.
• Maintain data dictionaries and governance metadata.
• Enforce standards across dev/qa/prod environments.
• Build ETL logic and scheduling dependencies when applicable.
• Monitor loads, troubleshoot failures, and perform root-cause analysis.
• Promote reusable patterns and standard naming conventions.
• Support deployments with impact analysis and compatibility planning.
