Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is seeking a Vice President – Data Scientist Lead to guide Generative AI initiatives across Commercial Banking. You will lead data-driven programs, design LLM-powered solutions, and partner with engineering to deploy scalable, governed AI capabilities.

You will mentor junior data scientists, translate business needs into measurable outcomes, and work across cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact use cases including content extraction and semantic search.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Data Science, CS, ML, Statistics, or related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of applied ML/NLP with production deployment in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with NLP and LLMs, including prompt engineering, RAG, and evaluation methodologies.
• Hands-on with Bedrock or equivalent managed LLM platform.
• Experience with Cortex Analyst or related workflows in an enterprise setting.
• Strong Python skills and familiarity with ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow; data tooling (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).
• Experience building APIs and integrating LLM/NLP solutions into applications and services.
• Experience building data pipelines for structured/unstructured data; embeddings, vector search, indexing, retrieval.
• Software engineering practices: Git, testing, CI/CD fundamentals.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management; finance domain knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver generative AI and LLM solutions for content extraction, semantic search, QA, summarization, reasoning, and recommendations.
• Design and manage prompt-based and retrieval-augmented generation systems with tool use and multi-step reasoning.
• Build evaluation frameworks for accuracy, robustness, latency, and cost with safety checks.
• Leverage Bedrock to prototype and productionize LLM apps including model selection and deployment patterns.
• Collaborate with Cortex Analyst to enable governed analytics experiences and workflows.
• Apply experience with Bedrock, SageMaker, or Databricks to real workloads.
• Work with engineering teams to deliver scalable services, APIs, batch jobs, and pipelines with solid software practices.
• Build data pipelines for indexing and retrieval of structured/unstructured data.
• Translate research on prompting, fine-tuning, and agent design into practical improvements.
• Communicate business needs into measurable statements and success metrics.
• Mentor junior data scientists and promote responsible AI practices.
