Job summary

Ares Management seeks a Vice President of Data Governance to own and operationalize governance across the firm. Build frameworks, policies, and processes to make data trustworthy, AI-ready, and compliant with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Cyber stakeholders.

Leading the Data & AI Program Delivery, you will define classification, catalog management, data quality, and access controls, while guiding AI governance and risk management across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in data governance or related roles with leadership experience in financial services.
• Experience building data governance programs incl. catalog, classification, quality and access.
• Hands-on with modern data platforms (Databricks, Unity Catalog, Azure data services).
• Knowledge of AI governance concepts and regulatory frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).
• Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor's degree; advanced degree or certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and mature end-to-end data governance framework with policies and ownership.
• Define data classification and ensure consistent application across systems.
• Establish governance councils and stewardships across functions.
• Own data catalog strategy and metadata standards.
• Ensure critical data assets are cataloged and discoverable.
• Define data quality elements, metrics, and SLAs.
• Implement data quality monitoring and remediation workflows.
• Define access management with RBAC and least-privilege.
• Protect PII and sensitive data with masking and retention rules.
• Lead AI governance for model risk, data lineage, and third-party vendors.
• Collaborate with Legal, Risk, Cyber to sign off on AI use cases.
• Educate and enable governance across business AI champs.
