SUMMARY:
Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Creative Development will lead The Shade Room’s content
development strategy and drive creative innovation across the company. This executive role combines strategic leadership, creative ingenuity, and digital fluency to shape the future of our content ecosystem. You will lead the development of original IP and branded entertainment designed for social-first consumption, while also defining the creative frameworks that guide our engagement across platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Snap, our O&O website and beyond.
The ideal candidate is a culturally fluent storyteller with an entrepreneurial mindset, a deep understanding of platform-specific content strategies, and a robust network of brand relationships eager to invest in social-first media that reflects and engages The Shade Room community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Original IP Development & Creative Leadership
- Lead the ideation, packaging, and creative direction of a slate of original content
across various mediums that reflect the nuances and breadth of The Shade Room’s brand identity. - Define and continuously evolve the creative strategy for digital platforms, ensuring content is optimized for each environment’s unique algorithms, formats, and audience behaviors.
- Identify cultural white space and develop content that drives community,
conversation, and cultural relevance, with an eye toward scalability and IP ownership. - Collaborate with audience development, insights, and data teams to leverage
performance analytics, audience segmentation, and trend forecasting into actionable content strategies. - Stay at the forefront of platform evolution and creator economy trends—ensuring the company is well-positioned to innovate with emerging formats and technologies(e.g., AI tools, livestream commerce, Web3 integrations).
Branded Content Innovation & Partnership Development
- Serve as the creative lead in brand partnership opportunities—conceptualizing,
pitching, and producing content that aligns brand goals with cultural authenticity
and storytelling excellence. - Translate brand briefs into social-native content formats that drive KPIs like engagement, view-through, and shareability, while protecting creative integrity.
- Actively maintain and expand relationships with senior brand marketers, CMOs,
creative agencies, media buyers, and platform partners to fuel content investments
and co-productions. - Develop integrated content solutions for brand partners that fuse creative storytelling with marketing objectives, ensuring cultural authenticity and audience alignment.
- Operate as a key member of the senior leadership team—contributing to long-term business strategy, revenue planning, and company vision.
- Lead and engage a high-performing team of external creatives, producers, writers, and strategists fostering a creative, growth-oriented environment.
- Provide hands-on creative direction throughout development, from pitch to greenlight to delivery, maintaining a high bar for innovation, execution, and cultural sensitivity.
- Cultivate relationships with diverse creators, influencers, and talent who can help expand our voice, reach, and impact.
Marketplace Engagement & Thought Leadership
- Stay ahead of marketplace trends, creator economy shifts, and platform algorithm changes to ensure our creative offering remains agile and competitive.
- Represent the company at industry events, festivals, and panels to position us as a thought leader in culturally relevant media and branded storytelling.
- Identify emerging voices, cultural trends, and format innovations to keep the content offering fresh and competitive.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines.
- Prioritize tasks effectively to ensure timely delivery of content.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Exceptional pitch skills and creative storytelling capabilities with a keen eye for what resonates with The Shade Room’s unique audiences.
- Expertise in digital platform ecosystems—including audience dynamics, content best practices, and monetization models for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Snap, and more.
- Executive presence with strong business acumen, creative intuition, and the ability to operate across strategy, execution, and deal-making
- Demonstrated ability to partner with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects from ideation through execution.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, with a passion for innovation, team-building, and pushing creative boundaries.
- Flexibility in managing multiple responsibilities; ability to meet deadlines; experience managing both urgent, short-term projects, and complex, longer-term projects.
- Impeccable attention to detail, solid organizational skills, highly motivated, and
results-driven. - Relationship management: networking skills with the ability to cultivate strong professional relationships with internal and external partners.
- Legal right to work in the US.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
BA in Fine Arts, Marketing, or related fields preferred. 10+ years in digital media, content
development, creative strategy, or branded entertainment—with at least 5 years in a senior
or executive leadership capacity. Proven success developing, pitching, and selling original
IP to digital platforms, networks, or distributors, especially in formats tailored to short-form or
social-first platforms. Experience crafting content that aligns with platform-specific trends,
formats, and algorithms—particularly on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Snap.
COMPENSATION
This is a full-time and exempt position. The pay range is $170,000 – $200,000 annually. Annual compensation will be based off of experience, local cost of living and budget.
