Job summary

Aprio Talent Solutions is seeking a Vice President, Controller to lead the accounting function for a premier sports and entertainment organization in Brooklyn. This hands-on role oversees close, consolidation, technical accounting, controls, and external audits across teams, venues, and affiliated entities.

The ideal candidate has CPA licensure, 10+ years of progressively senior accounting experience including leadership, and deep knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606/842/805, and ERP systems.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.
• Ten+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least four years as Controller/Assistant Controller.
• Public accounting experience with a national or regional firm.
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Experience managing a multi-entity consolidated close and external audit.
• Working knowledge of ASC 606, fixed-asset accounting, and capital-project accounting.
• Experience maintaining internal controls in a cash-intensive or high-transaction-volume business.
• Strong ERP knowledge and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• On-site work in Brooklyn with flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities, including consolidation and intercompany eliminations.
• Prepare consolidated and stand-alone financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Improve and stabilize the close calendar with clear ownership and accountability.
• Produce monthly reporting packages for CFO and leadership, including variance analysis against budget and forecast.
• Maintain general ledger, chart of accounts, and entity structure for accurate reporting by team, venue, and event.
• Serve as primary resource for technical accounting matters (ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 805, impairment, consolidation).
• Oversee revenue recognition for ticketing, premium seating, sponsorships, and more.
• Manage deferred revenue and fixed-asset accounting for arena and facilities.
• Oversee external audit, internal controls, and league/lender reporting.
• Partner with tax advisors on federal/state/local filings and unclaimed property.
