Job summary

Flagship Pioneering is seeking a VP, Business Development to own and drive the BD strategy for a subset of portfolio companies. You will lead cross-functional teams and steer deal concepts, diligences, and term sheets with transaction leaders.

The role requires 12+ years in BD/strategy, an advanced degree, and a track record of executive leadership across disciplines. You will partner with CEOs and senior teams to advance high-impact biotech partnerships.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in BD and corporate strategy leadership.
• Advanced degree (PhD/MD); MBA preferred.
• Senior/executive leadership across functions and boundaries.
• Ability to translate complex science into business value.
• Experience partnering biotech platforms or modalities (discovery to preclinical).
• Excellent presentation and stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

• As an embedded team member, drive BD strategy for portfolio companies to enable deal flow.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to become an expert in platform technology and products.
• Engage CEO and senior leaders to shape BD strategy and value drivers.
• Develop messages and partnerable deal concepts for external partners.
• Frame BD action plans including data generation and exclusivity constructs.
• Define biotech/pharma stakeholders and lead external outreach and diligence.
• Execute BD initiatives and structure transactions with cross-functional input.
• Cultivate alignment with CEO and Board on strategy and partnerships.
• Partner with R&D early to integrate a partnership perspective in development.
