Job summary

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) seeks a VP, Accounting and Controller for a direct-hire role in San Juan, PR. This position is 100% onsite and relocation is available for qualified candidates.

The successful candidate will lead a finance team, develop accounting policies, oversee financial reporting and internal controls, and partner with the CFO to drive strategic initiatives and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• CPA license is required.
• 8–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with leadership.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with internal controls and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a VP, Accounting and Controller for a direct hire position with a Major Utility Company located in San Juan, PR.

Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Relocation Required: Candidates must be willing to relocate to San Juan, Puerto Rico. This position requires working onsite in San Juan and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

As a key member of the executive team, this role serves as a strategic financial business partner to the Chief Financial Officer. The VP, Accounting and Controller will lead major divisions within the company, contributing to overall business strategy, ensuring operational excellence, and overseeing best-in-class accounting processes to mitigate financial risk and achieve organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals, overseeing daily work activities and projects
• Develop and implement accounting and financial policies, procedures, processes, and systems
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including audited financial statements
• Establish, monitor, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting
• Create accounting strategies to maximize profits and ensure all financial data adheres to current tax laws and regulations
• Drive accounting process transformation and automation to increase efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy
• Engage with external stakeholders to ensure the integrity of the company's financial records
• Support audits, reconciliations, and tax filings processes
• Stay up to date with evolving accounting regulations, technology, and industry best practices

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• 8-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including several years in leadership positions
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required
• Proven track record in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, audits, and tax filings
• Expertise in regulatory compliance, internal controls, and risk management strategies
• Proficient in accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and tax regulations
• Knowledge of financial systems and accounting software
• Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders
• Experience in managing accounting functions within large or complex organizations is highly preferred
• Government accounting experience dealing with Federal funding sources is preferred
• Valid driver's license
• Bilingual (English and Spanish)
