Job summary

PRLDEF (LJP) seeks an experienced litigator to advance voting rights litigation from its New York City office. The Associate/Senior Counsel will identify and develop cases, lead litigation efforts, and work with the legal and advocacy teams to advance community-driven goals.

The role requires a demonstrated track record in voting rights and redistricting, strong litigation skills, and the ability to collaborate across pillars with movement partners.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and at least two years of legal experience for Associate Counsel and seven years for Senior Counsel.
• Admission to practice law in good standing; New York State Bar preferred.
• Commitment to voting rights and LJP’s pillars; ability to work with diverse teams.
• Experience in civil rights and anti-discrimination claims, especially voting rights.

Responsibilities

• Litigate cases protecting voting rights, including pleadings, discovery, and hearings.
• Identify issues and develop new voting rights cases.
• Engage in public speaking at conferences and forums.
• Draft and edit public education and legal materials with advocacy teams.
• Communicate with clients and the community; collaborate with partners.
• Build relationships with voting rights experts and organizations for collaboration.
• Participate in Cada Voto Cuenta bilingual election protection program.
• Mentor interns and legal fellows on voting rights cases.
