Job summary

The UCLA Voting Rights Project (VRP) seeks an experienced litigation, trial and appellate attorney to work on California redistricting plans and election policies. Reporting to the Legal Director, you will help develop a new program with data scientists to track and analyze local plans across California, manage a docket, and litigate matters as part of a broader voting rights effort.

Qualifications

• Requires JD degree and admission to the California State Bar.
• Minimum 4 years of heavy litigation experience in California state courts.
• First or second chair trial experience in at least 5 contested matters.

Responsibilities

• Develop and litigate a docket of voting rights cases in CA.
• Draft pleadings, briefs, and discovery responses for state court litigation.
• Coordinate with data scientists to track redistricting and election policies.
• Present testimony before government bodies and agencies.
• Engage in public education events and media outreach.
