Florence County seeks a Workforce and Volunteer Coordinator to manage its volunteer firefighters and auxiliary members, ensuring a well-trained and engaged volunteer workforce that complements career operations and supports community programs.

The role involves recruiting, onboarding, onboarding volunteers, policy development, training coordination, and collaboration with command staff to address staffing and outreach needs; occasional evenings/weekends are required.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in firefighting.
• Experience in volunteer management, workforce development, human resources, or related field.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with paid staff, volunteers, and command personnel.
• High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

• Recruit, screen, and onboard volunteer firefighters, support personnel, and program participants.
• Develop and maintain volunteer policies, procedures, and performance standards in alignment with department goals.
• Support career workforce planning, including staffing assessments, training coordination, and retention strategies.
• Work with the Training Division to ensure volunteers receive required training, certifications, and continuing education.
• Plan, organize, and execute volunteer engagement activities, recognition events, and retention initiatives.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteer-related inquiries, concerns, and administrative needs.
• Assist with public education programs, community events, and recruitment campaigns.
• Occasional evening or weekend hours are required for volunteer activities, recruitment events, and department functions.
• Collaborate with command staff on strategic staffing needs, departmental planning, and community outreach efforts.
• Maintain accurate records of volunteer activity, compliance, and personnel information.
