The Volunteer Manager is responsible for fostering collaborative relationships throughout the community to grow and oversee the Cross-Lines volunteer base, which consists of over 1,200 volunteers annually. This position is responsible for recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers, as well as planning and executing volunteer appreciation and recognition events. The Volunteer Manager collaborates with the Market and Kitchen managers to ensure that all volunteer needs are met. The Volunteer Manager assists the Director of Development and Communications in successfully executing and participating in a range of Cross-Lines events and community groups to spread the mission of Cross-Lines throughout the community.

Primary Responsibilities:

·Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work

·Actively recruit, train, and schedule volunteers

·Manage and track volunteer hours within the volunteer management system and complete monthly reporting/tracking of those hours in a database

·Develop and maintain a comprehensive volunteer manual and a structured volunteer training process and topics

·Communicate regularly with volunteers, including creating and sending a quarterly Volunteer Newsletter email, to foster engagement, retention, and appreciation.

·Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field

·Assist in securing funding to support ongoing volunteer events and/or special volunteer activities

·Collaborate with organizational staff to understand the needs and priorities of volunteers in respective areas

Event Coordination

  • Lead the planning and execution of Cross-Lines’ annual Volunteer Appreciation Week, which includes coordinating daytime activities along with a special evening recognition event to celebrate andhonor volunteers
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of Cross-Lines’ major annual events, primarily:
  • Gala for Hope (September) a fundraising gala involving sponsors, auctions, and community celebration
  • Legacy Breakfast (May) a volunteer, donor, and supporter engagement breakfast highlighting the impact of volunteers, planned giving, and legacy contributions
  • Support event logistics, including guest communication, vendor coordination, venue setup, volunteer coordination for events, and day-of-event support

Community Engagement

·Develop and manage a comprehensive plan for community outreach and engagement. This includes raising awareness about Cross-Lines throughout the community and developing partnerships with other organizations that align with our mission, vision, and values.

·Attend community engagement events and participate in a broad range of community groups, including community development task force groups

·Network and collaborate with local organizations and community leaders

·Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships to help strengthen our surrounding community and support the people we serve in collaboration with the Director of Development and Communications

Director of Development and Communications

Qualifications:

·High School Diploma and/or relevant education or experience

·Demonstrated success in leading and directing volunteers

·Experience building and/or working with coalitions and community advocacy groups

·Demonstrated interest and ability to work with people from all social and economic backgrounds

·Knowledge of Wyandotte County and/or the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area is strongly preferred

·Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail in managing event logistics and coordinating 1,200+ volunteers per year

·Effective at speaking to groups of volunteers and leading tours of campus and programs

·Experience with developing and updating project plans to keep events and activities on track

·Ability to work effectively as part of a strong team

Salary and Benefits:

Salary Range: $21-24 per hour

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-4:30 PM with occasional evening and weekend activities.

This is a full-time position offering benefits, including health insurance, IRA matching, and generous vacation time and paid sick leave.

History:

Cross-Lines Community Outreach was established in 1963 as a “place of hope” for those struggling with the hardships of poverty. Today, Cross-Lines plays a vital role in the human service ecosystem of Wyandotte County, Kansas. Cross-Lines is a safety net for the community, providing crucial, direct-aid services in the areas of hunger relief and housing stabilization. The Cross-Lines Hunger Relief programs include a Community Market and a Community Kitchen. These programs aim to decrease overall hunger throughout the community by increasing access to healthy foods. The Cross-Lines Housing Stabilization programs consist of a Homeless Prevention, Homeless Outreach, and a Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) program. These programs strive to connect individuals experiencing housing instability to safe, permanent housing and supportive services.

The mission of Cross-Lines is to provide people in the Kansas City area affected by poverty with services and opportunities that encourage self-confidence, meet the needs of today, and provide the tools for future self-sufficiency.
