Job summary

Kalamazoo Literacy Council seeks a Volunteer & Internship Coordinator to recruit, train, and support volunteers and interns. You will manage intake, assignments, and progress, and serve as primary liaison with partners.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3+ years in nonprofit settings; strong communication and computer skills are essential; occasional evenings/weekends may be required. Background checks and drug screen are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, human resources or related field.
• 3+ years experience in nonprofit sector in human services, education, community organizing, or outreach.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and be insurable under agency policy.

Responsibilities

• Supervise volunteer activities including recruitment, intake, assignments, monitoring, and reporting of progress.
• Manage volunteer information, record keeping, and reporting in the organization’s database.
• Manage orientation and training activities for new and existing volunteers.
• Coordinate internship activities including recruitment, intake, assignments, monitoring, and reporting to post-secondary education partners.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with post-secondary education partners providing internships.
• Schedule weekly supervision of internships in accordance with agreements and learning contracts.
• Record intake information for volunteers and interns; monitor assessments for tutoring programs.
• Refer tutors for placement in centers and other opportunities; manage caseloads with partners.
• Attend partner meetings and assist in developing instructional and service opportunities.
