The Volunteer Firefighter is a non-compensated position that performs difficult service work providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, and other emergency responses. Work is performed under emergency conditions and usually involves personal danger. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Members must wear and maintain PPE such as steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, SCBA, N95 respirator, etc., in designated risk areas.
This is heavy work requiring exertion, climbing, balancing, and other physical activities. Environmental conditions include extreme cold and heat, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens with required PPE.
