The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Department of Wildlife Health Sciences (WHS) at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) in Front Royal, VA.

The Animal Health Technician provides veterinary technical support and performs veterinary tasks for the WHS Veterinary Department and its medical programs, including support in anesthesia, treatment, surgery, dentistry, radiology, preventative medicine, and record management.
Conditions include passing a background investigation, completing a probationary period if applicable, maintaining a bank account for direct deposit, and registration with Selective Service if male and born after 12/31/59.
Basic qualifications include experience in livestock or veterinary support roles. For GS-09, one year of specialized experience supporting healthcare for non-domestic animals and clinical laboratory support is required, or a related graduate degree or a combination of education and experience.
