Job summary

Family Building Blocks is seeking a proactive Volunteer Program Coordinator in Salem, OR to recruit, train, place, and recognize volunteers and interns. You will maintain records, support program staff, and collaborate with community partners to deepen engagement with the organization’s mission.

The role focuses on building long-term volunteer connections, coordinating onboarding and ongoing training, and supporting events that strengthen families and prevent child abuse.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and 5+ years coordinating volunteer programs, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in engaging and supporting volunteers as an integral part of program services.
  • Knowledge of current trends and resources in volunteerism and volunteer management.
  • Demonstrated event planning experience and logistics coordination.
  • Strong verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint; familiarity with volunteer databases.

Responsibilities

  • Lead volunteer recruitment, orientation and training, placement, and retention activities.
  • Coordinate volunteer and intern placements across sites and programs.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours and activities; generate reports.
  • Foster ongoing communication with volunteers and community partners to enhance engagement.
  • Oversee appreciation events and recognition of volunteer contributions.
  • Collaborate with HR to manage background checks and credentialing as needed.
