Salary Range Starting at: $18.00 per hour


Job Description:


As the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, organizing, and managing volunteers who support The Salvation Army's programs and services. The role involves ensuring that volunteers are effectively utilized and that their efforts effectively carry out the Salvation Army's mission.


What You Will Do:



  1. Recruitment and Outreach:


  • Develop and implement strategies for recruiting new volunteers.

  • Represent The Salvation Army at community events, schools, churches, and other organizations to promote volunteer opportunities.

  • Maintain relationships with schools, universities, and local businesses to encourage volunteer participation.

  • Maintains a volunteer list for large events like Angel Tree Toy Shop and Bell Ringing.


  • Training and Orientation:


    • Organize orientation and training sessions for new volunteers.

    • Provide ongoing training to ensure volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities.

    • Ensure volunteers are trained in safety procedures, confidentiality policies, and other relevant guidelines.


  • Volunteer Supervision:


    • Assign volunteers to appropriate programs, events, or services based on their interests and skills.

    • Monitor volunteer performance, providing feedback and guidance as needed.

    • Foster a positive and supportive environment for volunteers.


  • Event Coordination:


    • Plan and coordinate volunteer involvement in fundraising events, community service days, and other Salvation Army initiatives.

    • Ensure volunteers have the necessary tools and support for successful event participation.

    • Working with Area Command on any events that may benefit both Lake & Porter counties, such as the golf outing and kettle kick-off events.


  • Communication and Reporting:


    • Maintain regular communication with volunteers, ensuring they are informed about upcoming opportunities and organizational news.

    • Track volunteer hours and activities, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.

    • Prepare and submit regular reports on volunteer activity and program outcomes.


  • Volunteer Recognition:


    • Develop and implement volunteer recognition programs to celebrate volunteers' contributions.

    • Plan appreciation events, awards, or other recognition activities to retain and motivate volunteers.


  • Community Engagement:


    • Build and maintain relationships with local community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to further support volunteer programs.

    • Act as a liaison between volunteers and other staff members.

    Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.


    Education: A bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, business, or a related field is preferred.


    Background Checks: The position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.


    Experience: Previous experience working with volunteers or in a nonprofit organization is highly preferred.


    Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment.


    Skills/Abilities:



    • Able to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.

    • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.

    • Passionate about community service and making a positive impact.

    • Friendly, approachable, and able to inspire others.

    • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Flexibility and adaptability to changing volunteer needs and schedules.



    Supervisory Responsibility: Volunteers and Pack workers as needed.

    Physical Requirements Include:



    • Good speaking, hearing, and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity

    • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds

    Travel: Will require travel to events and trainings as needed.


    Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office, & church environment; This role may require some evening or weekend work, especially during special events or high-demand times (e.g., holidays, fundraising campaigns).
