Job summary

- Job Announcement
Performs journey-level skilled work assigned to the motor pool at the Government Center parking lots inside and outside of the building.
This position works under general supervision and specific duties include:
- Performs vehicle addition and removal from automated motor pool kiosk.
- Safeguards all motor pool vehicle keys.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections, minor mechanical repairs on vehicles, road tests vehicles, and does related work as required.
- Performs routine vehicle condition inspections and maintains the vehicles interior, cleans and disinfects.
- Replaces vehicle battery and light bulbs when needed.
- Test drives vehicles to aid in diagnosing repair problems or checking to ensure work completed resolves repair problems.
- Performs road service calls to assess the mechanical condition of disabled vehicles.

- Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") completion of the tenth grade with coursework in vehicle repair and maintenance.
Possession of a set of basic hand tools commonly used in the automotive industry, such as wrenches, pliers, and sockets and ratchets. Personal tools are required upon appointment.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience providing porter or vehicle valet services, to include moving cars, delivering parts, and cleaning cars.
- Experience providing administrative or customer services support in an automotive maintenance and repair environment.
- Familiar with motor vehicles and general tools, techniques and products used by vehicle and equipment technicians.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Experience with car cleaning, delivering parts, or car valet.
- Ability to multitask, conduct business in a professional manner, work independently, and set priorities.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications, i.e., MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiar with Navigation software and the ability to read maps.
- Punctual, dependable, and able to arrive on-time daily.
- Possession of current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s), a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift 50 lbs on an average of once daily; stoop, bend, twist, and reach many times daily. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
