Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid driver’s license required and meet state driving requirements.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • CJIS background check clearance.
  • Completion of Safety Crisis Management exam and training.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates safe and effective use of vocational tools and equipment.
  • Supervises students and monitors classroom safety protocols.
  • Ensures students wear proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Assists with cataloging, tracking and auditing tools after purchase and use.
  • Supports teacher and supervisor with equipment recommendations and repairs.
  • Communicates professionally with students and staff with respect and empathy.
  • Mentors students on youth development principles and behavior management.
  • Provides monitoring and supervision before/after school transport as needed.
  • Upholds diversity, equity and inclusion across interactions.

Nexus Family Healing is looking to hire a dynamic Vocational Program Assistant for our Baltimore, MD location!

The Vocational Program Assistant is a friendly, supportive team member who helps students develop practical vocational skills while fostering a safe and positive learning experience. In collaboration with the Vocational Program Teacher and Supervisor, this role provides instructional support, supervises student activities, and models safe workplace practices to help students reach their full potential.

  • 1301 Woodbourne Ave, Baltimore, MD
  • Salary Range - $21.00 - $23.00 per hour

Position Summary: The Program Vocational Assistant provides support to the Vocational Program Teacher and Supervisor with vocational instruction and demonstrates safe practices while supervising and supporting students.

Primary responsibilities:
Program & Student Supervision
  • Demonstrates safe and effective use of vocational program tools and equipment while assisting the teacher with instruction.
  • Monitors the vocational classroom environment and protocols to ensure students are safely operating equipment.
  • Provides supervision to ensure that all students are wearing proper safety equipment.
  • Assists with cataloging, tracking, and auditing all tools and equipment after purchase and after use.
  • Assists the teacher and supervisor with recommendations for potential equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Understands how to use vocational equipment as needed per the curriculum.
  • Guides and monitors students who are learning to use equipment; interacts and effectively communicates with students and faculty with poise, professionalism, respect and empathy.
  • Provides client supervision and mentorship while striving to understand child and adolescent development principles with intent to model and reinforce core fundamentals of youth development.
  • Redirects student behavior as issues arise, and assist with restraints when necessary while using sound judgement and remaining calm in the event of an emergency or crisis situation.
  • Assists in monitoring and transporting students before and after school from the residential units.
  • Demonstrates an acceptance and respectfulness toward diversity concerning commonalities and differences such as gender, race, age, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, disability, and gender identity.
Student Safety
  • Serves as mentor and role model by demonstrating compassion and understanding for feelings, opinions, and experiences of others, and communicating and interacting in a manner that is honest, positive, respectful, and professional.
  • Ensures student resident safety and collaborates with co-workers to maintain an environment that is positive, respectful, clean, and safe for student social and emotional development and growth.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures involving living classroom and school area, building, campus grounds and residential areas when assigned or when attending off-campus activities.
  • Performs First Aid/CPR procedures and responds according to established protocols in the event of an emergency situation
Nexus & Program Policy & Procedure
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries in all interactions and contact with students’ residents.
  • Complies with Nexus policies involving privacy and confidentiality for student residents and their families; maintains working knowledge and application of all Nexus policies and procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required by Nexus. Understands and supports the Nexus philosophy and treatment modalities.
Requirements

Required Education and Licensure:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Successfully participate and complete a Safety Crisis Management exam and training
  • Must successfully pass a CJIS background check

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • One (1) year of related experience
