Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, NC is seeking an Health Information Tech IV to manage birth and death certificate processes, coordinate with Medical Examiner, funeral homes, and public health offices.

The role includes data entry for birth certificates, notarization, and guiding families through the paperwork, while maintaining privacy and accuracy. RHIT/RHIA preferred; notary appointment within 30 days of probation.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Health Information Management or related program.
• RHIT or RHIA certification preferred.
• Notary public appointment within 30 days of probationary period.
• Two years’ acute care HIM or vital statistics experience preferred.
• Two years’ customer service or public interaction experience.
• Proficiency in English and typing 50 WPM.
• Strong organizational and telephone etiquette.

Responsibilities

• Prepares birth certificates by retrieving delivery sheets and recording infant names.
• Uploads birth information to the State Vital Records Office on a regular basis.
• Prepares paperwork for deaths including in-hospital and medical examiner cases.
• Assists families with information about releasing the deceased to funeral homes.
• Coordinates release of bodies with funeral directors and staff.
• Provides notary services for patients and families as part of birth certificate process.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
