Visual and Media Arts Content Specialist (SY25-26)

Position Overview

The Boston Public Schools seeks an innovative and collaborative leader to guide its visual and media arts educators. Reporting to the Executive Director for the Arts, the specialist will coordinate curriculum development, implementation, and monitoring across the district, ensuring a culturally and linguistically responsive visual and media arts education from PreK-12.

Responsibilities
  • Support teachers in implementing effective instructional practices.
  • Guide differentiation and implementation of the core curriculum.
  • Model leadership and effective communication, fostering educational success and opportunity for all students.
  • Develop and conduct professional development aligned with national and state arts standards.
  • Collaborate with teachers through meetings, feedback, and demonstration classrooms.
  • Assist in inventory, materials distribution, and citywide arts events.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and create instructional tools.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Strategic thinking for school-wide change.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of media arts software, curriculum, and instructional techniques.
  • Understanding of UBD and UDL frameworks.
  • Experience working with urban students, including those with disabilities and English Language Learners.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and MA Teacher Certification in Visual Arts or related field.
  • At least 5 years of urban teaching experience.
  • Proficiency with relevant technology and media editing software.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and communicate effectively.
  • Experience as a teacher leader and in professional development.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. by the first day of employment.
Additional Information

Terms: BTU, Group I. Salary details at www.bostonpublicschools.org/ohc. The work year includes 223 days, with specific days determined collaboratively with the principal. No vacation or compensatory time is provided, and work may be canceled due to weather.
