This vacancy is the result of a one-year long-term. Hired candidates may be excessed or non-renewed from the position for the following school year. Please keep in mind that the position is for one year only.

This position is an anticipated vacancy, expected to be vacant by 06/23/2025. The current incumbent may rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation until the vacancy date. Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start as a Long-Term Substitute if it does not become vacant by the start of the school year.

This school has been designated as a Level 4 or 5 School by the State of Massachusetts, allowing the district to utilize additional tools for support, including extended time and extra compensation.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach: Visual Art

Using the Rubric of Effective Teaching, priority skills include:

  • Accountability for Student Achievement: setting ambitious goals, assessing understanding, and adjusting instruction accordingly.
  • Communicating Content Knowledge: mastery of content, engaging delivery, and real-world connections.
  • Equitable & Effective Instruction: scaffolding, differentiating, and fostering active participation.
  • Cultural Proficiency: respecting diverse backgrounds and creating an inclusive environment.
  • Parent/Family Engagement: building collaborative relationships.
  • Professional Reflection & Collaboration: ongoing self-assessment and contribution to adult learning communities.
Qualifications - Required:
  • Valid Massachusetts Teaching License for Visual Art at the appropriate level.
  • Meet all state and federal licensing and qualification standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. by the first day of employment.
Qualifications - Preferred:
  • Experience in urban schools.
  • Fluency in one of BPS’s official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean or Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.
  • Certification in subject area and possibly in Moderate Disabilities or ESL at the relevant grade levels.
Terms:
  • Members of the Boston Teachers Union.
  • Salary based on a career ladder with five tiers.
  • Work hours: 7:15 am to 4:15 pm, 186 days per year.
