Job description

This vacancy is the result of a one-year long-term. Hired candidates may be excessed or non-renewed from the position for the following school year. Please keep in mind that the position is for one year only.

This position is an anticipated vacancy. It is expected to be vacant by 06/23/2025. However, the current incumbent has a right to rescind their retirement, leave, or resignation up until the day of the expected vacancy date. Your hire will not be confirmed until the position is vacated, and you may start the year as a Long-Term Substitute if the position does not become vacant by the start of the school year.

This school has been designated as a Level 4 or 5 School by the State of Massachusetts. This designation allows districts to utilize the new tools granted in the landmark education reform law that was passed in 2010 to provide additional services for these schools. Some of these tools will allow for extended time and extra compensation where needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

    1. Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License for Visual Art at the appropriate level.
    2. Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and 'Highly Qualified' according to NCLB.
    3. Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above.
    4. Education: Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
    5. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

    QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

    1. Experience teaching in urban schools.
    2. BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.
    3. In order to best serve all students, BPS prefers all core content teachers to be certified in their subject area and one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).

    TERMS:

    1. Teachers at Dever Elementary School are members of the Boston Teachers Union (BTU).
    2. The Dever Elementary School’s pay schedule differs from the BPS model by offering a career ladder consisting of five tiers—Novice, Developing, Career, Advanced, and Master—that will compensate teachers commensurate with their experience, development, and impact on students.
    3. As a Level 5 School, the standard workday for teachers at the Dever Elementary School will be nine hours (7:15am to 4:15pm) and the school year consists of 186 days.
    4. All candidates will be provided with a copy of the Professional Compensation System and Level 5 Turnaround Plan at the time of their interview.
