Job summary

United Way of the Kearney Area is seeking a VISTA Member to help build capacity by developing a case management system for staff and partners in the Kearney area. The role focuses on analyzing community needs, researching relevant programs, and recruiting volunteers to support tax assistance and other services.

United Way is a human services non‑profit which implements initiatives for change and impact so that everyone in the Kearney Area can thrive.As a VISTA Member at United Way of the Kearney Area, you will have the opportunity to create systemic changes within the human services network by building programs and systems and recruiting volunteers to help support that work.The VISTA member should consider having the following strengths:Willing to think outside the box for creative solutions to complex problemsDisplays compassion for those who are vulnerable and in povertyIs able to communicate clearly to different groups of peopleHas strong computer skillsIs willing to learn new skills and apply current skills to unique situationsEnjoys making a difference and serving a rural community.

Member Duties

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will develop a case management system to be used by United Way employees which will assist in building capacity for the organization and strengthen access to community resources. In doing so, the Member will analyze community needs, research programs to meet those community needs, market the need for volunteers to assist with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Other areas that the Member will serve to build capacity is developing a manual to organize key United Way programs and fund development. This will assist in identifying grant fund potential and opportunities for program growth and new program development and services for clients.
