Job summary

United Way of the Kearney Area is seeking a VISTA member to help build capacity and reform community services in the Kearney area. You will design a case management system, recruit volunteers for tax assistance, and develop program manuals to organize funds and growth opportunities.

The role emphasizes creative problem solving, compassion for those in poverty, and strong communication across diverse groups while supporting rural communities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • English language proficiency.

Job description

United Way is a human services non-profit which implements initiatives for change and impact so that everyone in the Kearney Area can thrive. As a VISTA Member at United Way of the Kearney Area, you will have the opportunity to create systemic changes within the human services network by building programs and systems and recruiting volunteers to help support that work. The VISTA member should consider having the following strengths: Willing to think outside the box for creative solutions to complex problems Displays compassion for those who are vulnerable and in poverty Is able to communicate clearly to different groups of people Has strong computer skills Is willing to learn new skills and apply current skills to unique situations Enjoys making a difference and serving a rural community.

Member Duties :

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will develop a case management system to be used by United Way employees which will assist in building capacity for the organization and strengthen access to community resources. In doing so, the Member will analyze community needs, research programs to meet those community needs, market the need for volunteers to assist with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Other areas that the Member will serve to build capacity is developing a manual to organize key United Way programs and fund development. This will assist in identifying grant fund potential and opportunities for program growth and new program development and services for clients.
