Job summary

Heart Ministry Center in Omaha, NE seeks a VISTA Program Development Specialist to support research, program development, and streamlining of services across the Center’s food, healthcare, and social enterprise initiatives.

The role focuses on data collection for grant projects, analytical support, and recommendations to strengthen divisions, staff, volunteers, and clients. Full-time service expected from 10/19/2026 to 10/18/2027.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience in community programs or nonprofit settings is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a mission-driven, community-facing role is essential.

Responsibilities

  • The VISTA will analyse processes to reduce duplication and streamline services.
  • Collect data for research and grant projects to inform decision-making.
  • Provide recommendations to strengthen interdepartmental collaboration among staff, volunteers, and clients.

Job description

The mission of Heart Ministry Center (Center) is to provide food, healthcare, and a way forward to the people severely affected by poverty in the Omaha metro area. The Center's immediate service area represents high crime rates, substance abuse, gang involvement, domestic violence, food insecurity, homelessness and low academic attainment. The Center offers a \"choice\" Food Distribution program, Monen Healthcare Clinic, Case Management, Fresh Start job training, and three social enterprises (laundromat, flower shop and screen printing) The VISTA member will assist the Center in providing crucial capacity building support by working in the areas of research, program development and streamlining of current services. The VISTA will be assigned projects that will allow the Center to increase progam deliverables and program participation

Member Duties

The VISTA will be streaming repetitive models and reducing duplication though analytical support and program assessment. This will provide the member an opportunity for hands on experience and engagement in serving the growing need for services within the neighborhood and community. The member will interact with community members and community leaders collecting data for research and grant projects. This information will be key in supporting leadership in accessing programs and services. The Member will make recommendations for program changes or merges to strengthen interconnected divisions, staff, volunteers and clients
