The National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) in Middleburg, Virginia is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and sharing the literature, art, and culture of equestrian, angling, and field sports. Founded in 1954 as the National Sporting Library, the institution has grown into a combined library, research facility, and art museum with a collection of over 26,000 books and works of art. NSLM engages diverse audiences through exhibitions, lectures, seminars, publications, and special events, some of which are free and open to the public. The Museum’s regular public hours are Thursday through Sunday, 10 am until 5 pm, offering a welcoming environment for learning and exploration.

Role Description

The Visitor Services Associate is a full-time, on-site role based in Middleburg, VA, responsible for providing a welcoming and informative experience for all guests of the National Sporting Library & Museum. Day-to-day responsibilities include greeting visitors, processing admissions and membership transactions, answering questions about exhibitions, programs, and facilities, and offering wayfinding assistance throughout the Library and Museum spaces. The role also involves monitoring galleries to support the safety of visitors and care of the collections, assisting with program registration and event set-up as needed, and handling phone and email inquiries. The Visitor Services Associate may help maintain visitor information materials, track attendance data, and collaborate with staff to improve visitor services procedures and overall guest satisfaction.

Qualifications
  • Customer service and visitor engagement skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and inclusively with diverse audiences.
  • Basic administrative and point-of-sale skills, such as handling cash or card transactions, maintaining accurate records, and using visitor management or ticketing systems.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and reliability in following procedures and schedules.
  • Interest in museums, libraries, or cultural institutions; familiarity with or enthusiasm for equestrian, angling, or field sports is beneficial.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, move between galleries and public areas, and assist with light physical tasks related to events and visitor services.
  • Comfort working a schedule that aligns with public hours (including weekends) and collaborating effectively as part of a small team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or experience in hospitality, museum studies, history, art, or related fields is a plus.
Hours

Part-time, up to four days a week: Thursday–Sunday, 9:45 am – 5:15 pm.

Salary

$14.87/hour
