Job summary

Fort Lewis College seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Design, Technology and Production/Technical Director to join the Performing Arts Department. The position offers a 50% teaching appointment (12 credits per year) and a 50% technical director appointment (20 hours per week).

The role includes teaching Beginning Scenic Design and Beginning Stage Management, mentoring students in technical theatre, and coordinating safety, schedules, and production plans for the season.

Qualifications

• A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatrical Design or equivalent professional experience is required by December 2026.
• Demonstrated experience in Technical Theatre and in mentoring students in a shop setting.
• Ability to teach Stage Technology and upper-division design courses, and lead student design/crew teams with budget oversight.

Responsibilities

• Teach beginning Scenic Design and beginning Stage Management.
• Recruit and lead technical theatre recruitment and mentor students in scenic design and technologies.
• Maintain safety procedures and train students on equipment; manage production schedules and budgets.
