Job summary

Fort Lewis College in Durango invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Design, Technology and Production/Technical Director. The role combines teaching (50%) and technical directing (50%), with a typical 9-month schedule and a full-time workload including production oversight.

The candidate will teach design and stage technology courses, mentor students, ensure safety, and collaborate with staff and other departments.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in Theatrical Design by Dec 2026 (MFA/PhD) or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience in technical theatre and designing/producing scenery.
• Experience mentoring students in a scene shop and working with diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Teach beginning Scenic Design and beginning Stage Management.
• Assist with recruitment and lead technical theatre recruitment.
• Mentor students in scenic design and other theatre technologies.
• Maintain safety and supervise student build crews and shop leads.
• Plan and manage production schedules, budgets, and accessories for all shows.
• Attend department meetings, rehearsals, and collaborate with other departments.
