Job Summary

The Visiting Lecturer in the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program is a full-time, 12-month faculty position responsible for providing high-quality instruction, academic advising, mentoring, and student support. Teaching responsibilities include classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and online instruction. Additional duties include assessing student learning outcomes, participating in accreditation and program evaluation activities, engaging in university, college, and community service, and supporting student success initiatives. The faculty member will contribute to the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Georgia Southwestern State University and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences through excellence in teaching, professional practice, and service.

This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment within the ASN Program and is funded through a four-year strategic partnership between Georgia Southwestern State University and Phoebe Putney Health System. The faculty member will support the goals of this partnership through nursing workforce development, student recruitment and retention efforts, and collaborative educational initiatives designed to address regional healthcare needs. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding, satisfactory job performance, and institutional need.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and teaches assigned ASN courses in classroom, clinical, laboratory, simulation, and online settings.
• Maintains a teaching load of 12-15 credit hours per semester, including Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.
• Advises, mentors, and supports students in academic progression and professional development.
• Evaluates student performance and provides timely feedback regarding academic progress and achievement.
• Maintains student records, assessment data, attendance records, and grades in accordance with university policies and deadlines.
• Serves as lead faculty for assigned courses and provides direct clinical instruction as needed.
• Collaborates with clinical instructors, preceptors, faculty, and healthcare partners to support student learning.
• Participates in program assessment, curriculum evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Collects, analyzes, and reports program outcome and assessment data.
• Maintains documentation and records required for ACEN accreditation and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in student recruitment, admissions, retention, and progression activities.
• Attends faculty meetings, committee meetings, commencement exercises, pinning ceremonies, and university events.
• Participates in faculty development, scholarly activities, and professional growth opportunities.
• Serves on departmental, college, and university committees as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the ASN Coordinator, Associate Dean, Dean, or University administration.

Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution required.
2. Current, unencumbered registered nurse licensure in the State of Georgia, or eligibility for Georgia licensure.
3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching in an undergraduate nursing education program.
4. Demonstrated record of scholarly, professional, and leadership contributions relevant to undergraduate nursing education.
5. Strong commitment to student success, academic excellence, and quality nursing education.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with three to five (3-5) years of teaching experience in a collegiate nursing program and a proven ability to support student learning and engagement in higher education settings. Additional preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Medical-Surgical Nursing
• Maternal/Obstetric Nursing
• Pediatric Nursing
• Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing
