The Joliet Public Library (IL) seeks an Executive Director to lead a two-location system serving 150,000+ residents. The role focuses on strategic planning, community partnerships, and fiscal stewardship, reporting to the Board of Trustees.

The successful candidate will guide operations, collections, programming, and innovation while developing staff and advancing technology to meet evolving community needs. Salary is competitive with strong benefits.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university.
• Five years of progressively responsible public library experience including at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
• Experience in budget development and administration.
• Commitment to professional development and training for staff.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and library trends; strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Joliet Public Library.
• Develop and implement short- and long-term plans in collaboration with the Board of Trustees.
• Oversee library operations, collections, programs, and services with fiscal oversight.
• Lead and develop staff and foster a positive workplace culture.
• Strengthen community partnerships and outreach; expand access to underserved populations.
• Support fundraising and development efforts; ensure long-term sustainability.
