Job summary

North Carolina A&T State University seeks a visionary Chair/Associate Professor to lead the Visual & Performing Arts Department within CAHSS. The role reports to the dean and shapes strategic direction, budget allocation, and program development.

You will guide faculty, manage workloads, and oversee accreditation while advancing teaching and creative research. The position is permanent, full-time, and may be eligible for remote or hybrid work under university policies.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree in a tenurable discipline in Visual & Performing Arts with significant administrative/teaching experience, preferably in a higher-education environment.
• Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated excellence in teaching and creative/research activities in theater and/or film, consistent with eligibility for appointment/tenure at the rank of associate professor or professor.

Responsibilities

• Engaging faculty in the strategic planning process for the department
• Department budget development, management and allocation
• Personnel management (i.e., recruitment and hiring; faculty/staff assignments and workload distribution; evaluation and professional guidance/development; reappointment, promotion & tenure, and post-tenure processes)
• Oversight of program accreditation
• Curricular and program development
• Grantsmanship and external funding focus
• Support of faculty research, teaching & service
